Colin Turkington led home a BMW one-two-three in the final Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship of the Cheshire Mouldings Race Day on the Oulton Park Island circuit this afternoon.
Turkington's Team BMW teammate Adam Morgan was the initial race leader from the front of the grid, with the Northern Irishman settling into second. All eyes were on championship leader Ash Sutton as the field rocketed towards Old Hall for the first time however, as the series' leader's Ford Focus ST tapped the wall and suffered immediate damage.
Sutton's NAPA Racing UK car made contact with reigning champion Tom Ingram's Hyundai as the race got underway, and he retired from the race soon afterwards, coasting to a halt after slowly exiting the first corner. Sutton's stoppage resulted in an appearance from the safety car, but not before the BMWs made their way into the top-three with Morgan leading Turkington and Jake Hill in the Laser Tools branded machine.
When the race resumed a few laps later, Turkington set about replacing his teammate at the front of the order and produced a strong run down The Avenue and towards Cascades to take the position. As Morgan ran wide, race one and two winner Hill capitalised to take second. From there, Hill threatened to make a move for victory, but he was never quite able to pass Turkington as the four-time champion claimed his second win of the season.
With Hill settling for second, Morgan drove home strongly to third to ensure a podium lockout for WSR-prepared BMW 330e M Sports.
Ingram survived his contact with Sutton to last the full race distance, and he now leaves Cheshire just six points adrift of the series leader in the points standings after taking fourth place. Dan Cammish rounded out the top-five to ensure that one of the NAPA Racing UK Fords scored some strong points.
Behind that, it was Aiden Moffat who led home a strong result for the One Motorsport with Starline Racing Honda Civics in sixth, with teammate Josh Cook just behind. Dan Rowbottom was eighth when the chequered flag fell, whilst the Toyota Gazoo Racing UK Corollas of Ricky Collard and Rory Butcher completed the top-10.
